Legal Affairs Manager

About the role

The Media Council of Kenya is seeking a full‑time Legal Affairs Manager to lead all legal matters affecting the Council. Based in Nairobi, you will provide expert advice on regulatory compliance, media law and corporate governance, ensuring the Council operates within the Media Act and related legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to senior management on regulatory, media and administrative law issues.
• Draft, review and manage contracts, policies, legal opinions and other statutory documents.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and support the development and implementation of internal policies.
• Coordinate with external counsel when specialised advice is required.
• Support dispute resolution and disciplinary processes involving journalists and media practitioners.
• Ensure compliance with the Media Act, corporate governance standards and board procedures.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to protect the Council’s legal interests.

Required profile

• LL.B degree from a recognised institution; admission to the bar and a practising certificate are highly desirable.
• Several years of post‑qualification experience in legal practice, regulatory bodies, public‑sector institutions or media‑related organisations.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory, media and administrative law.
• Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal advice on compliance, risk management and dispute resolution.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
