Liaison Officer

About the role

The United Nations is recruiting a Liaison Officer based in Nairobi, Westlands. The role involves liaison and engagement with governments on sustainable development, environmental issues and multilateral environmental governance, and provides procedural secretariat support to intergovernmental processes and the governing bodies of an international organization.

Required profile

• An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, environmental law, international law or a related field; a first-level degree in a related field plus two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in its place.
• A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, law, diplomacy, multilateral affairs, environmental governance or a related area.
• Experience liaising with governments on sustainable development, environmental issues or multilateral environmental governance.
• Experience providing procedural secretariat support to intergovernmental processes and/or the governing bodies of an international organization.
• Desirable: experience researching, analyzing and drafting procedural documentation such as agendas, annotated agendas, meeting scripts, background documents, reports and decisions.
• Desirable: experience advising a Chair, President, Bureau or presiding officer on rules of procedure, organization of work and established practices.
• Desirable: experience supporting the negotiation of resolutions, decisions, declarations and other negotiated intergovernmental outcomes.
• Desirable: two years or more of experience in data analytics or a related area.
