About the role

A logistics company specializing in perishables such as fresh-cut flowers, herbs, cuttings, produce and fruit across international trade lanes is recruiting a Loader, Operations in Nairobi. The position reports to the Operations Supervisor and involves safe handling of cargo in cold stores and loading bays.

Key responsibilities

• Truck offloading: board delivery trucks safely, follow offloading instructions, stack boxes on skids for cold-stores, clean airline equipment (ULDs), assist moving shipments and equipment through cold stores, and follow PPE and health and safety procedures.
• Cargo build-up and palletization: stack boxes on ULDs to contour specifications, secure buildup units (BUPs) with nets, assist their movement in cold stores, handle tools carefully, report irregularities to the Supervisor, keep the workplace clean and tidy, and carry out other duties assigned by Team Leaders.
• Cargo dispatch: move BUPs to dispatch areas, ensure nets are properly applied and tightened, apply pallet covers to units leaving the warehouse, retrieve, fold and store pallet covers after flight loading, assist in cold-store operations and follow safety procedures.

Required profile

• KCSE certificate; additional training or certification in logistics, warehousing or forklift operation is an advantage.
• Minimum 1-2 years' experience in a similar role in logistics, warehouse or cold chain; experience with perishable goods is highly desirable.
• Ability to lift, move and stack heavy boxes, work in cold environments and stand or walk for long periods.
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct and ability to follow health, safety and security protocols.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of cargo handling and palletization.
• Familiarity with ULDs and airline cargo equipment, and safe use of manual handling tools and basic machinery.
• Knowledge of cold chain operations is an asset.
• Attention to detail, safety awareness, good communication, teamwork, flexibility, discipline and punctuality.
