Public Area Supervisor

About the role

Fairmont Mount Kenya, a luxury hotel in the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy near Nanyuki, is looking for a Public Area Supervisor. The role supervises and coordinates the cleaning, maintenance and presentation of all public areas, keeping the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and guest satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily cleaning in lobbies, reception, guest washrooms, corridors, restaurants, bars, meeting rooms, entrances, the spa, gym and kids club, and conduct regular inspections
• Assign duties, monitor staff performance and prepare daily schedules; train, coach and motivate public area attendants
• Coordinate deep-cleaning schedules for carpets, upholstery, walls, windows and hard floors
• Follow up on maintenance issues and report defects promptly
• Maintain cleanliness during conferences, meetings and special events
• Control cleaning chemicals and supplies, maintain inventory of public area supplies and equipment, and report damaged or missing items
• Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards, keep wet-floor signs in place, and report accidents and hazards
• Handle guest complaints about cleanliness and liaise with Front Office, Engineering, Security and Food & Beverage

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management or a related field
• At least 2-3 years' experience in housekeeping operations, preferably in a luxury hotel
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills, strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
