Research Associate / Predoctoral Fellow – J-PAL Africa

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate or Predoctoral Fellow to join the J‑PAL Africa team within Yale Inclusion Economics. The fellow will work on applied economic research projects in Kenya that evaluate digital interventions aimed at empowering women.

Key responsibilities

• Clean, manage and merge large survey, administrative and monitoring datasets.
• Conduct statistical analyses using Stata.
• Prepare literature reviews, background research and draft content for grant proposals and academic papers.
• Draft project reports, slide decks, research protocols and other documentation.
• Collaborate with field research teams and implementing partners, including travel to study sites across Kenya.
• Contribute to knowledge‑sharing activities within the country office.

Required profile

• Strong quantitative background with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Econometrics or a related field.
• Training in applied econometrics and experience handling survey data.
• Good academic writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

Required skills

• Stata for data analysis.
