Research Fellow – Power Electronics & SiC DC Circuit Breaker

About the role
The University of Aberdeen is seeking a Research Fellow to lead the Medium Voltage DC Circuit Breaker work package within the EU Horizon Europe project MoWiLife (2024‑2027). The role focuses on developing a 5 kV DC circuit breaker using the latest 2.3 kV SiC MOSFET technology.
Key responsibilities
- Design, model and simulate SiC‑based medium‑voltage DC circuit breaker concepts.
- Conduct hardware experiments and build demonstrator prototypes.
- Analyse performance benefits of SiC devices for DC‑CB applications.
- Collaborate with project partners, including Infineon and other academic institutions.
- Publish research findings and contribute to technology road‑maps.
Required profile
- PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Strong research background in power electronics.
- Hands‑on experience with hardware prototyping and testing.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
