Senior Accountant - Agribusiness

About the role

A client in agribusiness operations is looking for a proactive, hands-on Senior Accountant to oversee its day-to-day financial operations. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role bridges financial strategy and factory-floor operations and reporting, supports company leadership and supervises a team of Accountants and Junior Accountants. The jobholder is responsible for the entire accounting cycle, from raw avocado sourcing and production yield analysis to inventory management, statutory tax compliance and financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end closing, prepare draft financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and review complex reconciliations, bank accounts, intercompany transactions and supplier statements.
• Compile internal records and workpapers to streamline internal and external audits.
• Track and analyse production costs (raw avocados, processing chemicals, packaging materials, crude and refined oil outputs) and monitor daily fruit-to-oil yield ratios, flagging variances and waste.
• Coordinate monthly physical stock takes at the warehouse and processing plant and resolve system-versus-actual discrepancies.
• Supervise the preparation and timely filing of VAT, Income Tax and withholding tax returns, and enforce internal financial controls aligned with IFRS/GAAP.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate Accountants and Assistant Accountants, delegate tasks for month-end closure, accounts payable/receivable and payroll, and train the team on accounting software, SOPs and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related business field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA(K)), ACCA or equivalent professional designation.
• 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Prior experience in manufacturing, food processing, FMCG or agricultural export is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Advanced MS Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas).
• Hands-on experience with comprehensive ERP software.
• Supervisory leadership, analytical attention to detail and clear communication of financial data.
