Senior Accountant (M/F)

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime and rail) in Africa and part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Senior Accountant in Mombasa. The position is full-time and permanent, covering tax, postings, standing charges, supplier payments, month-end closing and reporting, intercompany balances, relief of the financial controller and team leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Tax: understand tax requirements and changes, prepare and review VAT, PAYE and withholding tax returns, and respond to tax authority queries
• Postings: review supplier vouchers for proper coding and allocation, ensure costs are supported by LPOs and delivery notes, and approve invoices according to the matrix
• Standing charges: run them monthly, match prepaid and accrued expenses, propose reviews, and explain accounts classes 1-4 and 6-8 and monthly provisions
• Supplier payments: track and dispatch invoices for approval, reconcile suppliers accurately, validate remittances in IRIS, check balances and follow up long outstanding invoices
• Month-end closing: close on time, review the general ledger first, liaise with payroll, workshop and invoicing, and complete reporting packages
• Intercompany balances: settle monthly and reconcile before payment
• Relieve the financial controller on specific tasks and lead and guide the accounting team
• Support internal controls, internal and external audits and end-of-month stock takes

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in commerce or a related business course
• CPA(K) qualification
• 5 years' experience in a similar role
• 3 years' experience in freight forwarding
