Senior Adviser, Global WASH Acceleration Programme (P-5)

About the role

The Senior Adviser will lead UNICEF's Global Acceleration Programme and related global initiatives for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Reporting to the Director of WASH, the role provides technical leadership and partnership support across global, regional and country levels, shaping the future of WASH programming worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement the Global Acceleration Programme to scale high‑impact WASH solutions.
• Provide strategic technical guidance to Country and Regional Offices and external partners.
• Lead cross‑cutting initiatives on policy reform, at‑scale programme design, public finance and institutional strengthening.
• Coordinate with UNICEF Centres of Excellence to ensure coherent, demand‑driven technical assistance.
• Monitor and evaluate programme outcomes, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s child‑focused development goals.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in public health, environmental engineering, international development or a related field.
• Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in WASH programming at global or multi‑country level.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale, evidence‑based initiatives and influencing policy.
• Strong understanding of UNICEF’s programme architecture and partnership mechanisms.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in WASH sector standards and best practices.
• Experience with programme design, scaling, and impact evaluation.
• Ability to provide high‑level technical advice to senior stakeholders.
