Senior Backend Engineer (AI-Native) – Remote

About the role

Umba is seeking an experienced Backend / Full‑Stack Engineer to design, build and scale core financial technology services. The role is AI‑native, leveraging LLM‑based tools such as Claude Code and Codex to accelerate development while maintaining high quality and security.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Python (Flask, FastAPI).
• Contribute to front‑end development with Next.js and assist across the stack as needed.
• Define clear technical specifications that can be executed by AI‑assisted workflows.
• Use AI coding tools to generate code, then review, test and harden the output for correctness, security and performance.
• Architect systems with a focus on reliability, observability and scalability, building robust testing and validation pipelines.
• Collaborate with Data and Product teams to deliver end‑to‑end features and debug complex production issues.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python and backend frameworks (Flask, FastAPI).
• Experience building and scaling APIs and distributed systems.
• Comfortable working across the stack with some front‑end exposure.
• Experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot) in daily workflows.
