Senior Heavy Plant Mechanic (Construction) - NYS-Trained

About the role

A well-established company that leases and maintains construction plant and machinery for road, dam and civil works projects across Kenya is hiring a Senior Heavy Plant Mechanic. The role leads maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy construction machinery across several project sites, keeps fleet reliability high and mentors junior mechanics.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on ADTs, excavators, graders, rollers, bulldozers and similar equipment
• Diagnose faults in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems using tools and software
• Oversee workshop operations, assign tasks and guide junior mechanics and technicians
• Maintain service logs, parts usage records and maintenance reports
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and statutory regulations
• Work with the Maintenance Manager on service schedules, repair priorities and spare parts inventory
• Provide on-site technical support during construction to minimise downtime
• Train, coach and mentor junior mechanics

Required profile

• NYS-trained Plant Mechanic
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field
• 4 to 7 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment
• Experience supervising workshop teams and coordinating maintenance across multiple sites
• Familiarity with maintenance management systems and preventive maintenance programmes
• Experience with equipment leasing, mining or large-scale construction companies is highly desirable
• Valid driver's licence
