Senior Legal Counsel – Procurement, Marketing & HR

About the role

The Senior Legal Counsel will act as the primary legal and compliance partner for Procurement, Marketing, HR and data governance functions at Tatu City. You will ensure that all contracts, policies and processes meet Kenyan legal standards while protecting the company’s interests and supporting its growth as a leading SEZ development.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate supplier and vendor agreements, ensuring compliance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act and internal governance frameworks.
• Provide legal advice on procurement risks, warranties, indemnities and payment terms, and support vendor onboarding and pre‑qualification.
• Review marketing contracts, sponsorships and advertising materials for compliance with the Competition Act, ICT Act and Data Protection Act, and protect the company’s brand and IP.
• Draft and update employment contracts, HR manuals and workplace policies in line with the Employment Act, Labour Relations Act and Occupational Safety and Health Act.
• Advise on employee relations, disciplinary actions, terminations and data protection obligations.
• Serve as the legal business partner across the three functions, maintain contract templates, risk registers and compliance frameworks, and liaise with regulators and external counsel.
• Oversee secure data storage and access in knowledge‑management systems such as Egnyte.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law.
• Minimum 7 years post‑qualification experience as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practising certificate.
• Strong background in corporate/commercial law and multi‑functional legal support.
• In‑depth knowledge of Kenyan legislation including the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, Competition Act and Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Egnyte or similar knowledge‑management platforms.
