SME Relationship Manager

About the role

The SME Relationship Manager will originate, build and manage SME relationships to drive customer acquisition, retention, portfolio growth and income generation across assets, liabilities, trade finance and cash management products.

Key responsibilities

• Drive SME balance sheet growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and expanding product uptake such as trade finance, cash management and digital banking.
• Manage key customer relationships through regular engagement, portfolio reviews and advisory support, positioning the bank as the preferred partner.
• Conduct preliminary financial analysis, assess business viability and prepare credit proposals in collaboration with credit and risk teams.
• Monitor portfolio performance, early warning indicators and maintain quality within approved risk thresholds.
• Ensure compliance with KYC, AML and internal risk guidelines while supporting documentation and onboarding processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or related field; MBA or postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
• Minimum five years of banking experience with at least three years in SME relationship management in Kenya.
• Strong practical exposure to analysing business financial statements and assessing SME credit viability.
• Experience in credit analysis, business development and portfolio management; exposure to trade finance is a plus.
