Substitute Teacher – Flexible Schedule (2026‑2027)

About the role

MCPS is seeking substitute teachers for the 2026‑2027 school year across all grades, subjects, and locations. This on‑call position allows you to gain classroom experience while providing schools with reliable coverage when regular teachers are absent.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver instruction according to the regular teacher’s lesson plans and classroom materials.
• Maintain a safe, orderly learning environment and manage student behavior.
• Follow any specific instructions left by the absent teacher for the day.
• Use the automated substitute calling system to accept assignments and update availability.
• Complete required paperwork or digital reports after each assignment.

Required profile

• Minimum of an associate degree or 60 college credits from an accredited institution (official transcript required).
• Bachelor’s degree or higher qualifies for higher pay rates.
• Valid Maryland professional eligibility certificate or standard advanced professional certificate for premium rates.
• Flexibility to work on an on‑call basis, including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to travel to multiple MCPS locations as needed.
