Trade Finance & Exports Manager

About the role

Umba, a fast‑growing pan‑African digital bank, is seeking a Trade Finance & Exports Manager to lead the expansion of its trade finance and export business. You will be responsible for acquiring exporter clients, structuring competitive financing solutions, mobilising deposits, and maintaining portfolio quality while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, source, onboard and manage relationships with exporters across key sectors.
• Drive acquisition and activation of export/FX clients to meet business targets.
• Structure and execute trade finance solutions including invoice financing, guarantees, LPO financing and FX products.
• Generate revenue from performance bonds, bid bonds, advance guarantees and LPO financing.
• Mobilise low‑cost deposits (CASA) from export clients and optimise cost of funds.
• Increase fee income from transactional banking services such as FX and trade flows.
• Maintain portfolio quality, monitor arrears and ensure compliance with CBK regulations and internal credit policies.
• Provide market intelligence on exporter needs, industry trends and competitor offerings.
• Lead and manage the trade finance/export team to achieve performance targets.

Required profile

• Proven experience in trade finance, export financing or related banking functions.
• Demonstrated ability to acquire and grow a portfolio of exporter clients.
• Strong understanding of foreign exchange products and yield optimisation.
• Experience in deposit mobilisation and CASA management.
• Solid risk‑management skills and familiarity with regulatory compliance, particularly CBK guidelines.
• Leadership experience with a track record of managing and motivating a team.
