Faculty Physician & Programme Director – Adult Emergency Medicine

About the role

The Department of Family Medicine at Aga Khan University Hospital is hiring a full‑time Faculty Physician and Programme Director for Adult Emergency Medicine. The role combines clinical leadership, teaching of emergency medicine residents and diplomates, and support for research and quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and ensure safe, high‑quality patient care in the Accident and Emergency Department.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate Senior House Officers and emergency medicine residents.
• Coordinate and deliver educational programmes, including training of emergency medicine diplomates.
• Ensure all doctors are licensed, manage privileging and maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Participate in recruitment, performance management and disciplinary processes for clinical staff.
• Lead scholarly activities, contribute to emergency medicine research and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine (or equivalent) and MBChB.
• Registered specialist with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
• Minimum of two years post‑training experience and current academic rank of Senior Instructor.
• Demonstrated healthcare leadership experience in an emergency medicine department.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize work independently, think critically and solve problems.
