Instructional Designer

About the role

SkillCat, America’s largest online trade school, is seeking an Instructional Designer to transform technical material from subject‑matter experts into clear, visual, beginner‑friendly e‑learning lessons. The role is fully remote and works with a cross‑functional team to bring each lesson to life.

Key responsibilities

• Receive topic outlines and learning objectives and create step‑by‑step written lessons for complete beginners.
• Write detailed visual briefs describing diagrams, animations, or labelled photos needed for each lesson.
• Collaborate daily with visual designers and animators to ensure visuals match the instructional intent.
• Coordinate across content leads, designers, and animators to move content through review, revision, and publishing.
• Gather student feedback and continuously improve lesson quality.
• Maintain accuracy, consistency, and scope of all lessons, verifying technical content with SMEs before publishing.

Required profile

• Excellent English writing with strong attention to grammar, spelling, and structure.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into plain language for novices.
• Visual thinker who can convey precise diagram or animation requirements.
• Quick learner comfortable with new technical topics.
• Team player who communicates proactively and accepts feedback.
• Background in basic science, instructional design, or e‑learning development preferred.
• Experience in a startup environment and familiarity with LLM tools is a plus.
