Investment Specialist – Nairobi, Kenya (Tier 1 & 2)

About the role

The Investment Specialist is based in Nairobi within UNCDF’s Investment & Implementation Division, reporting to the Region‑Based Investment Specialist for East and Southern Africa. The role provides the analytical and coordination backbone to turn pipeline opportunities into bankable, impact‑aligned transactions, covering the full investment lifecycle from due diligence to post‑approval monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Design and mobilize innovative development finance initiatives using loans, guarantees and grants, including preparation of concept notes, donor proposals and investor briefing materials.
• Conduct market and borrower analysis, build and stress‑test financial models, and perform preliminary risk and ESG screening to support investment decisions.
• Lead the full investment transaction process, coordinating due diligence, internal approvals (PIC/IDIC), legal closing and post‑approval covenant monitoring and impact tracking.
• Monitor project performance against approved log‑frames and financial plans, driving remedial actions where deviations occur.
