Senior Officer, Health Systems Strengthening Delivery Enablement

About the role

The Gates Foundation is seeking a senior professional to lead a 12‑month portfolio of grants and performance‑based contracts that strengthen primary health‑care systems across Sub‑Saharan Africa. Based in Nairobi, the role combines strategic research, partnership development, and operational oversight to ensure high‑impact delivery of evidence‑based interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate, execute, and manage a complex portfolio of grants and contracts aligned with foundation strategy.
• Review letters of inquiry and grant proposals, providing concise written analyses and funding recommendations.
• Consult with grantees and partners through site visits, operational guidance, and stakeholder convenings to maximize impact.
• Develop, resource, and implement programs that integrate with other foundation initiatives.
• Contribute to the design of new strategies, collaborations, and implementation plans.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in health‑systems design, financing, or related grant management.
• Proven ability to conduct rigorous research and analysis across technical health domains.
• Strong experience in strategic communications, advocacy, and partnership building.
• Demonstrated track record of representing an organization externally and collaborating with internal teams.
