Area Sales Manager – Modern Trade

About the role

Our client, a leading FMCG company, is looking for an Area Sales Manager – Modern Trade to lead category and sales growth across key modern‑trade retail chains in Nairobi. The role focuses on developing and executing growth strategies, strengthening retailer relationships and translating market insights into commercial results.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute category growth strategies across assigned Modern Trade accounts and territories.
• Identify opportunities in assortment, distribution, pricing, promotions, visibility, listings, and shelf productivity.
• Drive achievement of sales, distribution, volume, value and profitability targets.
• Analyse sales performance by SKU, retailer, category, territory and customer.
• Monitor rate of sale, SKU productivity, distribution and promotional performance.
• Identify performance gaps and develop corrective action plans.
• Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key Modern Trade customers and retail chains.
• Engage customers on assortment, listings, pricing, promotions, visibility and distribution.
• Prepare and present monthly and quarterly category and business performance reviews.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with at least 5 years of experience in FMCG sales or modern‑trade channel management.
• Proven track record of driving category growth and achieving sales targets.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret sales, shopper and market data.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with retail partners.
• Results‑oriented and commercially driven mindset.

• Gross salary Ksh. 70,000 plus applicable sales commission.
