Branch Accountant – FMCG – East Africa

About the role

The Branch Accountant will oversee all financial, accounting, inventory and internal control activities at the branch level for a high‑volume FMCG operation in East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate general ledgers, prepare financial reports, and execute month‑end closing, journal postings and variance analysis.
• Oversee warehouse inventory movements, conduct perpetual stock counts and reconcile physical stock with ERP records.
• Manage accounts receivable, credit limits, cash collection, bank deposits and daily cash/bank reconciliations.
• Process accounts payable, vendor invoices and ensure timely payments after proper reconciliation.
• Ensure compliance with regional tax laws (VAT, withholding tax, PAYE) and file statutory returns on time.
• Enforce corporate financial policies, internal controls and proper documentation of all vouchers and invoices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA, ACCA or equivalent preferred.
• 3‑5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in FMCG, retail, distribution or manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of inventory valuation, cost accounting and cash‑handling procedures.
• In‑depth understanding of East African tax legislation and statutory filing rules.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Tally or QuickBooks.
• Advanced MS Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, financial modelling).
