Business Development Manager - General Insurance

About the role

IWE Ltd is hiring on behalf of its client for a full-time Business Development Manager based in Nairobi, Kenya. The role suits an experienced, commercially driven professional with a strong background in general insurance, tasked with driving business growth, acquiring corporate clients and expanding market opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Drive new business acquisition and grow corporate insurance accounts
• Identify and pursue public-sector and private-sector tenders
• Prepare and coordinate tender submissions, proposals and quotations
• Build and maintain relationships with corporate clients, institutions and insurance companies
• Negotiate insurance terms and premiums with underwriters
• Drive sales, marketing, client retention, portfolio growth and profitability
• Coordinate the end-to-end insurance process, including underwriting, claims, policy placement, renewals and client servicing
• Identify market trends and develop strategies to secure new business

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration or a related field
• Diploma in Insurance or a relevant professional qualification such as AIIK or equivalent
• At least 5 years' experience in the general insurance industry
• Previous experience in an insurance brokerage firm is essential
• Hands-on underwriting experience is a key requirement
• Experience in corporate business development, client portfolio management and tendering processes

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of underwriting processes, risk assessment, premium pricing, policy terms and coverage
• Claims management experience and understanding of the end-to-end insurance business cycle
• Strong negotiation, communication, analytical and relationship management skills
