Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the role

Trees for the Future is seeking an experienced, dynamic financial leader to build and scale a high‑performing finance organization. The CFO will join the senior management team, reporting directly to the Board Finance Committee, and will drive financial strategy as the organization expands across East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a finance function capable of supporting rapid growth and new country expansion.
• Modernize financial systems and processes, ensuring robust financial planning and analysis.
• Lead high‑stakes commercial negotiations and manage complex contracts with investors, impact partners, and offtakers.
• Provide strategic decision‑support to senior leadership and the Board.
• Oversee fiduciary responsibilities, ensuring compliance with donor and investor requirements.
• Communicate financial performance proactively to internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven senior finance leadership experience in a fast‑growing, mission‑driven organization.
• Track record of building finance teams and scaling financial operations.
• Strong understanding of commercial finance, contract management, and investor relations.
• Ability to work collaboratively across program, operations, and fundraising functions.
