About the role

The United Nations Office at Nairobi is seeking a senior leader to head the Information and Communication Technology Section (ICTS). Reporting to the Director of the Division of Administration, the Chief will oversee the delivery of ICT infrastructure and conference technology services for UNON, UNEP, UN‑Habitat and other UN entities in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and implement the ICTS programme in line with UN ICT Strategy and governing decisions.
• Oversee LAN, WAN, Internet services and ensure reliable ICT support for UNON’s Common Back Office clients.
• Develop standards and procedures for conference technology, including A/V, web content distribution and congress systems.
• Manage the Primary and Secondary Technology Centres and associated environmental monitoring systems.
• Conduct ICT and conference technology risk assessments, especially for open‑source applications.
• Lead, coach, mentor and evaluate the ICTS team, allocating work and ensuring performance.
• Coordinate multiple concurrent projects involving innovative applications, databases and system integration.
• Plan and integrate site‑wide ICT infrastructure across the UNON complex.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in managing large‑scale ICT and telecommunications environments.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to direct multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong project management capabilities for concurrent, innovative initiatives.
• Familiarity with UN administrative and ICT governance frameworks.
