Communications Officer (Entry Level)

About the role

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) in Kenya is recruiting a Communications Officer (Grade IPOA 9, 1 position) for its Headquarters and Regional Offices. The role sits within Corporate Communications and reports to the Senior Assistant Director, Corporate Communications. Its purpose is to handle internal and external communications, branding and the enhancement of the Authority's visibility.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation of policies, strategies, guidelines, plans, standards and procedures affecting communications and outreach, in line with applicable laws, regulations and circulars.
• Monitor and analyse public perceptions of the organisation and advise accordingly.
• Carry out internal and external communications, including press releases, speeches, scripts, publications, social media, web communications and documentation.
• Implement outreach programmes to improve the Authority's visibility and image.
• Support the management of the Authority's brand and its consistent application.
• Support the organisation of corporate affairs events and public relations initiatives.
• Compile data for internal and external communications reports and update records.
• Implement risk mitigation measures in the division.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations/Communications, Mass Communication, Journalism or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
