Debt Recovery Officer – Kenya (Migori, Kakamega, Eldoret)

About the role

The Debt Recovery Officer will manage and recover delinquent loan accounts, focusing on those over 180 days past due and written‑off balances. Working closely with branch managers and external partners, the role aims to maximise recoveries, minimise losses and improve portfolio quality while maintaining professional client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and manage all accounts over 180 days past due and written‑off accounts.
• Contact delinquent customers, negotiate repayment arrangements and monitor progress to meet recovery targets.
• Provide guidance and support to branch managers on recovery actions and coordinate initiatives across branches.
• Conduct field visits, customer inspections and trace guarantors or collateral to support recovery efforts.
• Develop and recommend recovery strategies, document actions and recommend legal or restructuring options where appropriate.
• Liaise with external debt collectors, auctioneers, advocates and collection agencies, monitoring their effectiveness and compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing delinquent loan or debt recovery portfolios.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills with customers and stakeholders.
• Ability to conduct field visits and assess repayment capacity.
• Familiarity with coordinating recovery actions across multiple branches.
• Knowledge of legal and restructuring options for written‑off accounts.
