About the role
The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of EHS policies across telecom, electrical and civil works projects. You will ensure compliance with Kenyan OSHA regulations and East African statutory requirements while promoting a safe and sustainable work environment.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and review EHS policies, procedures and risk assessments in line with Kenyan OSHA and regional legislation.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits on telecom, electrical and civil works sites to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Prepare risk assessments and method statements for high‑risk activities such as tower climbing, working at heights, excavation and electrical installations.
- Deliver EHS inductions, training sessions and toolbox talks for staff, contractors and subcontractors.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses, produce root‑cause analysis reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate EHS records, statistics and regulatory reports.
- Manage the availability, proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all project sites.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., DOSH) to coordinate inspections, permits and certifications.
- Support the development and testing of emergency response and evacuation plans.
- Monitor environmental compliance, waste management and promote sustainable site practices.
Required profile
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
- Certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent; registration with a recognized EHS professional body is an advantage.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably within telecommunications, construction or electrical industries.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan OSHA and East African EHS legislation.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel extensively to field sites.
