Family Strengthening and Early Childhood Development Advisor

About the role

The Family Strengthening and Early Childhood Development Advisor will act as the subject‑matter expert for a multi‑county child development, care and protection project. The role provides technical advice, guidance and support to strengthen families, protect vulnerable children and advance integrated early childhood health and development using protective‑factors and Nurturing Care frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on family‑based case management, family strengthening, prevention of child‑family separation, reintegration and alternative care pathways.
• Apply a protective‑factors model to enhance parental resilience, social connections, concrete supports, caregiver knowledge and nurturing caregiver‑child relationships.
• Ensure all approaches reflect safeguarding principles, disability inclusion, trauma‑informed practice and relevant residential‑care transition guidance.
• Support assessment, case planning, referral, follow‑up, documentation and case closure for families at risk, kinship, foster and other alternative care arrangements.
• Guide teams on minimum family‑strengthening packages and specialized pathways that connect households to practical supports.
• Provide technical guidance on integrated early childhood development (iECD) using the Nurturing Care Framework, covering health, nutrition, responsive caregiving, early learning, safety and caregiver well‑being.
• Contribute to policy improvement, service quality and sustainable system change through collaboration with government, civil society, faith‑based and community stakeholders.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in family strengthening, child protection and early childhood development.
• Experience applying protective‑factors and Nurturing Care frameworks in program design and implementation.
• Proven ability to work with government, civil‑society and community stakeholders to influence policies and practices.
