Grants and Compliance Officer

About the role

The Grants and Compliance Officer will ensure effective management of donor grants and sub‑grants for COVAW, a Kenyan women’s rights organization. Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager with a dotted line to the Program Manager, the role involves overseeing compliance, budgeting, reporting and partner capacity across multiple programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the full grant lifecycle from award to close‑out, maintaining an up‑to‑date grants management system.
• Track and meet donor reporting deadlines, preparing narrative and financial reports.
• Review grant agreements, advise project teams on compliance requirements and ensure adherence to donor regulations, COVAW policies and safeguarding standards.
• Monitor grant implementation against work plans, budgets and donor commitments.
• Manage sub‑grant processes, conduct partner due‑diligence, capacity and risk assessments.
• Provide training and support to partners on grant administration and compliance.
• Maintain accurate grants information, documentation and audit trails.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance, Development Studies, International Relations or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience in grant management, donor compliance or financial monitoring within NGOs or international development.
• Strong knowledge of donor regulations (e.g., USAID, EU, DFID) and procurement procedures.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently to field sites across Kenya.
