HR Officer – Nairobi, Kenya

About the role

The HR Officer will support the Country Office in Nairobi by ensuring compliance with NRC’s HR policies and local employment legislation. This role combines operational HR tasks with strategic guidance to strengthen staffing, employee relations, and partner coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Implement NRC HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with the Kenyan Employment Act.
• Manage end‑to‑end recruitment processes, including advertising, candidate shortlisting, interview coordination, and onboarding.
• Maintain staff records, contracts, leave, medical, appraisals and generate monthly HR reports.
• Process medical and insurance claims, and prepare statutory contributions for social security and pensions.
• Oversee payroll administration in collaboration with Finance, ensuring accuracy and statutory compliance.
• Administer benefits such as medical insurance, WIBA, and pension schemes.
• Conduct HR audits, compliance reviews and follow‑up on corrective actions.
• Facilitate partner onboarding, training on HR policies, and coordinate partner payroll compliance.
• Provide strategic and operational HR guidance on employee relations, grievances, and disciplinary processes.
• Support training coordination and capacity‑building initiatives for staff development.

Required profile

• Proven experience providing strategic and operational HR guidance.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan employment legislation and internal HR policies.
• Experience managing recruitment, onboarding, payroll, and benefits administration.
• Ability to conduct HR audits and ensure compliance.
• Experience coordinating partner onboarding, training, and payroll compliance.
• Excellent collaboration skills with programme managers and finance teams.
