Laboratory Technologist

About the role

Mpala Research Centre is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technologist to support high‑quality laboratory services for research, conservation and scientific activities. The role involves conducting analyses, managing samples and ensuring safety and quality in the laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Perform laboratory analyses using DNA extraction, microscopy, PCR, NGS and related techniques.
• Support field sample collection, receipt, processing, storage and tracking.
• Maintain equipment through calibration, maintenance and decontamination.
• Implement biosafety, biosecurity and waste‑management procedures.
• Prepare technical reports, document results and assist researchers with data interpretation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or a related field.
• Practical experience with DNA extraction, PCR and microscopy; NGS experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of laboratory biosafety, biosecurity and quality management systems.
• Strong record‑keeping, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
