Job description

About the role

Octavia Carbon, the first Direct Air Capture (DAC) company in the Global South, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, procurement and lifecycle management of piping systems and mechanical equipment across its DAC plants, including geothermal-integrated facilities. The role covers the full asset lifecycle, from plant and pipe layout design through equipment selection and purchasing to field maintenance, working closely with the process engineering team and site operators.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop plant layouts and detailed pipe routing for DAC facilities, including geothermal-integrated plants
  • Produce and review piping deliverables such as plot plans, piping layouts, isometrics, pipe supports, stress-critical line analysis and tie-in designs
  • Select piping materials, wall thicknesses and specifications based on process conditions, and ensure compliance with codes such as ASME B31.1/B31.3, ASME BPVC and API standards
  • Coordinate piping design with mechanical, process, electrical and instrumentation disciplines
  • Select, specify and purchase mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, valves); prepare technical requisitions, evaluate vendor bids and review vendor drawings
  • Support FATs and equipment commissioning
  • Assess corrosion and degradation mechanisms (CO2 corrosion, chloride pitting, stress corrosion cracking, erosion-corrosion, scaling, sour service) and recommend materials, coatings and linings
  • Define and support inspection programmes (corrosion monitoring, wall-thickness surveys, NDT)

Required profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in piping design and/or plant mechanical engineering, preferably in process industries (chemical, geothermal, power, oil & gas, carbon capture)
  • Willingness to spend regular time on site supporting operations and maintenance teams

Required skills

  • Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers, fans) and their common failure modes
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy and corrosion mechanisms, and material selection
  • Piping design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D and pipe stress analysis
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.3, API 610/617 and equivalent standards
  • Ability to read P&IDs, PFDs and equipment datasheets

Applications close on 1 November 2026 and are reviewed on a rolling basis. The company offers competitive pay, growth opportunities, a route to company equity and a demanding environment with a steep learning curve.
