Recreation Services Manager

About the role

The Recreation Services Manager will lead morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs for the U.S. Navy community on Diego Garcia. This position ensures safe, engaging, and high‑quality recreational activities while supporting the well‑being of service members and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Manage resale operations and all recreational programs to meet the needs of the military community.
• Ensure compliance with CNICINST 1710.3 – Chapter 1, Section 114 for hazardous material handling and maintain current CPR certification for relevant personnel.
• Train staff in Navy MWR Star Service customer‑service standards and the AECR (Achieving Extraordinary Customer Relations) course.
• Provide on‑call availability during regular hours and ensure an alternate is reachable within one hour for emergencies.
• Serve as a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor and deliver required training.
• Officiate sports leagues (soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football) and ensure fair, quality competition.
• Organize and promote diverse recreational events for installation personnel and families.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance MWR programs and monitor facility usage.
• Oversee budgets, financial records, and resource allocation to maintain fiscal responsibility.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• At least three years of general recreation experience demonstrating knowledge of recreation principles and group motivation.
• Minimum five years of specialized experience in a Non‑Appropriated Funds Instrumentality (NAFI) or similar civilian management role.
• Certification or ability to become a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor.
• Current CPR certification for relevant personnel.
