Security Advisory Expert – East Africa (Freelance)

About the role

MiCT is seeking a freelance Security Advisory Expert to support Fellows and staff operating in East Africa. The role will run from September 2026 to June 2027 and can be based in Kenya, Uganda, or both. You will provide risk assessments, training, and crisis support to journalists working in conflict‑affected environments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for Fellows and identify physical and digital vulnerabilities.
• Design and deliver safety and digital‑security workshops, either virtually or on‑site, for the Nairobi team and Fellows.
• Provide one‑on‑one security consultancy to address specific concerns.
• Offer emergency incident response and ongoing crisis support as situations evolve.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience in security risk management within East Africa.
• Proven experience working with journalists or media professionals in crisis and conflict contexts.
• Based in Kenya and/or Uganda and able to work on an ad‑hoc freelance basis.
• Ability to provide documented proof of relevant experience.
