Senior Backend Developer – Node.js / AdonisJS

About the role

AppInApp is building a next‑generation digital services platform that connects customers, businesses, brands, payment providers and third‑party vendors across Africa. We are looking for a senior backend developer to design, develop and maintain secure, scalable services that power digital ordering, marketplaces, loyalty programs and mobile payments.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, develop and maintain backend services using Node.js and AdonisJS.
• Design secure REST APIs and integrations for mobile and web applications.
• Build scalable systems that support multiple industries and service categories.
• Implement authentication, authorization and data‑security best practices, including JWT.
• Optimize performance, reliability and scalability of backend components.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and deliver sustainable solutions.
• Participate in system architecture decisions and technical road‑maps.
• Collaborate closely with product, design and frontend teams to deliver high‑quality releases.
• Maintain clean, well‑documented, production‑grade code.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience with Node.js.
• Proven experience with AdonisJS.
• Strong understanding of REST API design and backend architecture.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB.
• Solid Git workflow experience.
• Experience implementing JWT authentication and security controls.
• Understanding of scalable system design and performance optimization.
• Experience with Docker, cloud deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
• Discipline, strong ownership mentality and ability to work under pressure.
