Senior Civil Engineer

About the role

The U.S. Embassy in Nairobi seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to provide comprehensive engineering and construction quality assurance for the Nairobi CAA Project. This 36‑month fixed‑term position will oversee technical inspections, contractor performance, and compliance with U.S. building codes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform technical inspections of civil and structural work and monitor the contractor’s quality‑control program.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with design documents and U.S. codes.
• Observe onsite construction, verify proper installation of elements, and assess safety program adherence.
• Prepare weekly progress reports, construction reports, and recommendations based on field inspections.
• Evaluate contractor submittals, resolve conflicts, and assess proposed remedial actions.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum of seven years’ experience on construction projects of similar scope and value.
• Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design narratives.
• Experience with quality‑assurance processes and safety monitoring in large‑scale infrastructure projects.
