Senior Manager, Communications

About the role

The Senior Manager, Communications will lead Food For Education’s communications function, shaping both internal and external messaging to support organisational priorities. This senior role reports to senior leadership and requires strategic oversight across multiple communication channels.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day leadership of the communications team, coaching staff, managing performance and resource allocation.
• Translate organisational priorities into integrated communications plans and ensure early engagement of communications in strategic initiatives.
• Oversee internal communications strategy, editorial planning, employee engagement and partnership with the People team.
• Lead external and corporate communications, including media engagement, executive messaging, speeches and opinion pieces.
• Protect the organisation’s reputation through issues preparedness, crisis communications planning and risk monitoring.
• Maintain integrated communications planning processes, editorial governance and KPI reporting.
• Manage PR agencies and specialist partners, building relationships with media and key stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related discipline (postgraduate qualification advantageous).
• 8–10 years of experience in strategic communications, including leading communications teams and advising senior executives.
• Strong media and corporate communications background, with experience in fast‑growing, complex organisations.
• Experience in Africa and/or the development sector is a plus.
