Senior Project Manager

About the role

The Senior Project Manager will lead project execution and delivery for business‑critical initiatives at Absa Bank Kenya, reporting to the Head of Change. The role involves managing projects of varying size and complexity across the bank and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Define project scope, develop business cases, charters and detailed plans, and secure resource commitments.
• Lead large‑scale projects or workstreams, coordinating teams, monitoring progress, managing budgets, risks and issues, and ensuring delivery on time, within budget and to quality standards.
• Provide regular progress reports to steering committees and senior stakeholders, and ensure proper handover to operational support.
• Establish governance structures, service management groups and audit plans, and ensure compliance with regulatory and risk frameworks.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement, communication of governance exceptions, and support audit activities.
• Manage sub‑project teams, set targets, monitor performance, and provide coaching and training as needed.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing medium to large projects in a banking or financial services environment.
• Ability to secure project sponsorship, define scope and deliverables, and manage resources across multiple locations.
• Strong governance, risk and compliance awareness, with experience applying project methodologies and standards.

Required skills

• PMP or PRINCE2 certification (or commitment to achieve within 6 months).
• Project management methodology expertise (PRINCE2, PMP).
• Risk management, budgeting and financial forecasting.
• Stakeholder engagement and communication.
• Resource planning and team leadership.
