Wage and Hour Specialist (GS-14)

About the role

The Wage and Hour Specialist provides expert guidance on federal wage and hour laws, prepares educational and policy materials, and serves as a key liaison between the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) and external stakeholders. This position supports the development and enforcement of labor regulations at the national level.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare educational, promotional, and explanatory materials on wage and hour enforcement.
• Respond to inquiries from employers, employees, unions, government officials, and Congress, including Freedom of Information Act requests.
• Review and draft program policies, regulations, and guidelines to reflect statutory changes.
• Provide authoritative interpretations to field offices and external parties, and draft opinions for the WHD Administrator.
• Act as liaison with WHD Regional and District Offices, offering technical expertise on investigations.
• Analyze, develop, and recommend policy options for nationwide implementation.
• Coordinate with the Office of the Solicitor on legal matters related to enforcement and administration.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen, at least 16 years old, able to obtain required security clearance.
• GS-14 applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level.
• Must meet an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) and possess at least two of three specialized criteria, including knowledge of federal wage and hour laws and analytical skills.
