Ceph Engineer / Developer

About the role

ELITS Canada is looking for a senior Ceph Engineer/Developer to join its R&D organization. You will work with experienced engineers to evolve and optimise a large‑scale OpenStack‑based cloud platform and its storage foundations across multiple Canadian locations.

Key responsibilities

• Deep‑dive into Ceph code (RADOS, RGW, core storage) to improve performance and scalability for production workloads.
• Profile, benchmark and troubleshoot performance issues at petabyte scale, identifying architectural and operational bottlenecks.
• Lead internal knowledge sharing and mentor teams on Ceph best practices.
• Contribute upstream to the Ceph project by submitting patches and participating in design discussions.
• Develop and maintain build pipelines and extensions, ensuring long‑term maintainability.
• Partner with Platform Operations to enhance observability, stability and issue resolution in production clusters.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional squads to align Ceph capabilities with roadmap items such as GPU‑aaS, Backup‑aaS, Bare‑metal‑aaS and DB‑aaS.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating Ceph in multi‑petabyte, high‑availability production environments.
• Strong C++ development background, especially with system‑level components of Ceph.
• Deep knowledge of Ceph performance tuning (OSD placement, CRUSH maps, BlueStore, cache tiering, RGW optimisation).
• Familiarity with OpenStack, Linux system administration and cloud infrastructure.
