Ceph Engineer / Developer

About the role

ELITS Canada’s R&D team is looking for a Ceph Engineer / Developer to join its cloud infrastructure group. You will work with experienced engineers to evolve a large‑scale OpenStack‑based platform and its storage layer, supporting customers across several Canadian locations.

Key responsibilities

• Deep‑dive into Ceph code (RADOS, RGW, core storage) to improve performance and scalability for production workloads.
• Profile, benchmark and troubleshoot issues across multi‑petabyte clusters serving thousands of clients.
• Lead internal knowledge sharing and mentor teams on Ceph best practices.
• Contribute upstream to the Ceph project by submitting patches and participating in design discussions.
• Develop and maintain build pipelines and extensions, ensuring compliance and long‑term maintainability.
• Partner with Platform Operations to enhance observability, stability and rapid issue resolution.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional squads to align Ceph capabilities with roadmap items such as GPU‑aaS, Backup‑aaS, Bare‑metal‑aaS and DB‑aaS.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating Ceph in production at multi‑petabyte, high‑availability scale.
• Strong C++ development background for system‑level software, especially within Ceph core components.
• Deep knowledge of performance tuning (OSD placement, CRUSH maps, BlueStore, cache tiering, RGW optimization).
