Chief Public Communications Officer

About the role

The County Government of Kitui is recruiting a Chief Public Communications Officer for a full-time, on-site position in Kitui. The role leads the county's public communication strategy, manages public information campaigns, coordinates communication teams and ensures consistent and accurate communication with stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Gather information on programmes, significant events in a specific sectoral area and their impact on customers, and forward it to the head of the Public Communications Unit for dissemination
• Assist in developing communications and media strategy
• Edit stories on topical issues before they are released to the public
• Liaise with media practitioners and the public on issues of mutual concern

Required profile

• Kenyan citizen
• Served in the grade of Senior Public Communications Officer or a comparable position in the Public Service for at least three years
• Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Communications Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences or an approved equivalent, or a Bachelor's in Social Sciences with a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communications, Communications Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations or its equivalent
• Clear understanding of how the media works and the socio-political environment in Kenya

Required skills

• Good oral and written communication in English and Kiswahili
• Advanced computer application skills
