Public Communications Officer I

About the role

The County Government of Kitui is hiring a Public Communications Officer I for a full-time, on-site position in Kitui, Kenya. The officer develops public communication materials covering county events and shares government information with the public. The deadline for applications is 16 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Gather information on programmes and significant events
• Edit stories on topical issues in a specific sectorial area
• Liaise with media practitioners and the public on issues of mutual concern
• Schedule interviews with Government officials
• Manage assigned projects and programmes under the guidance of the head of the unit or section

Required profile

• Kenyan citizen
• Served in the grade of Public Communications Officer II or a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three years
• Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Communications Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences or another approved equivalent from a recognised institution, or a Bachelor's in Social Sciences with a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communications, Communications Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations or its equivalent
• Good oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili

Required skills

• Proficiency in information and communication technology, including the use of the internet and intranet services
