Cost Accountant

About the role

The Cost Accountant will support the financial health of commercial electrical construction projects. Working remotely, you will collaborate closely with Project Managers to monitor job costs, track budgets, analyse variances and ensure accurate financial reporting throughout each project's life cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed project budgets and financial forecasts in partnership with Project Managers.
• Track all job costs—including labor, materials, equipment and subcontractor expenses—and update the system with change‑order pricing.
• Prepare monthly job‑cost reports, variance analyses and assist in Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules.
• Reconcile project costs with general‑ledger accounts and maintain data accuracy across financial systems.
• Support internal and external audits by providing detailed cost documentation and ensuring compliance with contract and accounting standards.
• Continuously evaluate and improve cost‑tracking methods, accounting processes and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Proven experience in construction accounting, preferably in electrical or specialty contracting.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting financial insights to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining close coordination with cross‑functional teams.
