About the role
The Counsellor will deliver a professional, confidential counselling service for learners enrolled with DN Colleges Group. Working within the Safeguarding, Prevent and Inclusion team, you will help students and apprentices manage personal, emotional and wellbeing challenges, enabling them to stay engaged with their studies.
Key responsibilities
- Provide confidential, professional counselling support to students and apprentices.
- Assess risk and monitor vulnerable or at‑risk learners.
- Liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations for referrals and specialist support.
- Maintain accurate, secure case records in line with BACP requirements and college procedures.
- Attend regular clinical supervision and uphold BACP ethical standards.
- Develop, review and improve counselling policies and service delivery.
- Plan and deliver workshops and group sessions for learners.
- Promote the counselling service through inductions, open events and awareness activities.
- Collaborate with safeguarding and inclusion colleagues and external partners to support wellbeing and retention.
Required profile
- Foundation degree in Counselling and current registration as a BACP Registered Practitioner.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Experience providing therapeutic counselling to a wide age range, preferably within an educational setting.
- Experience working with external referral agencies.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation for young people and vulnerable adults.
Required skills
- Knowledge of BACP Ethical Framework and professional standards.
- Ability to maintain accurate, secure case records.
- Understanding of safeguarding and risk‑management processes.
What we offer
- Permanent contract, 35.5 hours per week (term‑time).
- Salary pro‑rated £27,944 – £30,468 per annum (actual £26,116.89 – £28,475.86).
