Database Administrator Manager

About the role

HF Group is looking for a Database Administrator Manager based in Nairobi (Westlands). The role manages the bank's database platforms and related IT and telecommunication systems, keeping them up to date with technology while maintaining uptime and service quality.

Key responsibilities

• Design and document operational manuals and procedures.
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the bank's database platforms and keep them aligned with technological developments.
• Manage relationships with technology service providers to optimise uptime.
• Evaluate, plan, implement and maintain IT and telecommunication projects within agreed time and budget.
• Develop and manage a Business Continuity Plan and a Data Security Plan for the systems, including IT operations.
• Ensure controls and monitoring so services continue during power outages and telecommunication failures.
• Monitor and manage service user complaints.
• Organise, manage and motivate staff and partners on projects, and increase computer awareness among staff.
• Produce MIS reports for IT and bank management and influence policy through systems committees.

Required profile

• University degree in a technology-related field (upper second class or equivalent).
• Minimum 7 years supporting IT systems, with 4 years in database administration holding an OCP certification.
• 2 years in banking operations, storage and backup management, data warehousing and ETL concepts.
• Experience in UNIX and Windows environments, and in installing, setting up and troubleshooting databases in high availability settings.
• Leadership potential, structured approach to work, and ability to communicate effectively with clients and partners.

Required skills

• Oracle database management certification (mandatory); proficiency with the Oracle and Microsoft database stack.
• 2 years with Sybase, MySQL, MS-SQL, Azure Cloud, PostgreSQL and data warehousing.
• Proficiency in project management or ITIL; knowledge of SOA concepts, authentication and data security.
• Experience with formal software lifecycle methods and RBMS design and administration; Sybase or SAP HANA experience is an added advantage.
