Digital Media Translator/Editor – French

About the role

UNEP is seeking a Digital Media Translator/Editor – French to join its Communication Division in Nairobi. The professional will enhance UNEP’s French‑language digital presence by translating, editing and managing web and social media content for global audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Translate stories, press releases, speeches and publications from English to French and proofread French‑language web content for accuracy and consistency.
• Update, maintain and improve content on UNEP’s French‑language website, reviewing sections and recommending revisions.
• Support French‑targeted social media strategies, translating and adapting graphics, videos and other digital assets for French platforms.
• Manage UNEP’s French‑language social media channels, engage audiences, and analyse statistics to optimise reach and engagement.
• Assist with communication requests, outreach activities, events and campaigns directed at French‑speaking audiences.
• Participate in division trainings, meetings and workshops while staying current on emerging digital communication and translation technologies.
• Contribute articles highlighting volunteer experiences and support onboarding of UN Volunteers where relevant.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience in translation, editing, digital media or strategic communications.
• Proven experience managing websites and social media platforms, creating content and engaging audiences.
• Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong understanding of social‑media trends and strategic communication approaches.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field.
