Gateway Operations Manager – Kenya

About the role

The Gateway Operations Manager leads DHL Express' gateway functions in Kenya, ensuring efficient, secure and compliant handling of inbound and outbound shipments. This senior position drives operational excellence, aligns performance with DHL Group objectives and supports the development of the team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee import/export clearance, bond store operations and shipment processing while ensuring compliance with customs, AVSEC, air‑side and health & safety regulations.
• Drive achievement of KPIs such as TT Service Commitment, DF Compliance and Movement On‑Time Performance; manage scorecards and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Lead, coach and develop staff, provide mentorship, succession planning and foster a culture of accountability.
• Build and maintain partnerships with Customer Service, Commercial teams, airlines, customs authorities and Ground Handling Agents.
• Promote digitisation, automation and process optimisation; implement new SOPs and contracts.
• Manage audits (Global SOP, CRISP, AVSEC, DG, SALT) and ensure timely corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven leadership competencies: accountability, strategic thinking, people development, adaptability, collaboration and customer‑centricity.
• Minimum 5 years of management experience in express, logistics or aviation environments.
• University degree in Business or Logistics (post‑graduate preferred).
• Strong understanding of DHL products and operations, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
