Junior Social & Environmental Officer

About the role

The Junior Social & Environmental Officer will support social, environmental and health‑and‑safety activities on field‑based water projects for a water‑solutions client. The role involves community engagement, data collection, monitoring and reporting in remote, arid environments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct household and community interviews, surveys and consultations, documenting socio‑economic data and community concerns.
• Support stakeholder engagement, community meetings and social safeguards, including gender and GBV considerations.
• Perform environmental field observations, inspections and surveys, collecting baseline and monitoring data.
• Assist with environmental compliance, risk identification and basic health‑and‑safety monitoring.
• Prepare accurate field reports, maintain records and contribute to project documentation.

Required profile

• Diploma in Sociology, Social Sciences, Community Development, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
• 1‑2 years of relevant field experience, preferably in arid or semi‑arid areas.
• Experience with community engagement, social surveys, environmental fieldwork or social safeguards.
• Proficiency in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of a local language is an advantage.
