About the role
The Land Management Law Enforcement Officer supports the administration and management of refuge law‑enforcement activities across multiple states and jurisdictions. This position provides advisory and technical expertise to field wildlife officers, project leaders, and refuge managers on regional law‑enforcement matters.
Key responsibilities
- Support regional administration of refuge law‑enforcement operations and budget management.
- Provide advisory and technical guidance to field wildlife officers and refuge managers.
- Implement policies, standards, and procedures for the National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS) law‑enforcement program.
- Assist with criminal and civil investigations at the regional level.
- Coordinate with multiple states, jurisdictions, and mission‑essential program areas.
Required profile
- U.S. citizen or national; meet time‑in‑grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300.
- Pass background investigation, drug test, pre‑employment medical exam, and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Authorized to carry a firearm and wear official USFWS uniform.
- Complete a 1‑year probationary period and submit required financial disclosure forms.
- Male individuals born after 12‑31‑1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
- No convictions for domestic‑violence misdemeanors or felonies unless expunged or pardoned.
Required skills
- Successful completion of Land Management Police Training (FLTEC) or equivalent.
- Federal Wildlife Officer Basic Training (FWOBT).
- Field Training and Evaluation Program (FWS‑FTEP).
- Firearm proficiency and safe handling.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate government or private motor vehicles.
